Paniyeli Poru (14 April 2021)
Paniyeli Poru: Paniyeli Poru is an ideal location for one-day trekking. This 1.5 km trekking through riverside pathway will take you to the waterfalls. After walking around 400 m one has to cross the river by foot to reach the forest and walk forward about a kilometer to reach the cascade. You can also see numerous small islands in the river and you can hang out and roam around the jungle. It is not a hard trek and is easy when the water is low.
Timing: 08.00 AM to 04.00 PM
2 wheeler parking outside the main gate to Paniyeli Poru
The main entrance. To the left is the ticket window. 10rs ticket for adults. Extra for cameras(DSLR/Video). To the right is the parking area. Strictly no plastic allowed , so leave everything behind in vehicles. Personal water bottles may be allowed wih a sticker, and needs to be shown to security at time of exit. Once you enter inside there is a cafe and a toilet. The place opens at 8am. Best to visit early, to avoid crowds. Tends to get hot and humid post 10am.
Best time to visit from Nov to May, as water levels are low and you can walk across the designated and marked section of the river, on the big boulders. Beware, the area is strictly patrolled by forest guards every 100mts, so you cant enter the river anywhere. Only designated points allowed.
Once you cross this river, its a nice trek to the final waterfalls. Unfortunately due to my shoes ,I couldn't trek further. Will update this post with more pictures when i visit again.
As you enter, you can walk along the banks of the river for approx 500mts.
The path along the river is mostly flat and packed mud. So in dry season should be easy to walk on. Also sufficient trees along to provide some shade. Many spots along the way have a small space with a bench to sit on, rest and have a small picnic with family. Again please make sure no litter is left behind, as forest guards are stationed at frequent intervals to stop tourists from littering or straying off the marked path.
Some sections of the path are uneven and can be a problem to walk on, especially if it has rained the previous night. Wear footwear accordingly.
